I continued work on the rolags... completing the study by spinning and then knitting up the samples.

What to do with Spiral Yarns,, especially Thick and Thin... I set up my rigid heddle loom, without the heddle and handpicked this scarf.  No waste!!  I may hand paint the scarf yet...

Tuesday 6 May 2014

This week, I decided to spin along with a fellow fiber artist from the Fiber Artists and Spinners Facebook page.

Spiral Yarns

I produced the following spiral yarns:

Spiral yarn, rambouillet fiber

Spiral Yarn, Rambouillet fiber
Spiral Yarn, Rambouillet Fiber, sewing thread for core yarn

Braids

I created braids for spinning:

Rolags... continued

Rolags, produced on last post

Rolags, spun single ply
My next task will be to knit up each of the above rolag samples to see how it all turns out.

Monday 28 April 2014

I've been busy this past week...

I had some left over silk hankies from one of my scarf projects from last week (see previous blog) so I attenuated them and spun up this mini-skein (30 grams).

Silk Hankies - Spun

My first Dyes

I felt a bit blue this week!  I dyed a lot of blue (Sky Blue Jacquard Dye).
I have singles, energized singles, Navajo ply and double ply wools in this mix.

Silk Scarf - Nuno Felting - non roll method

After much discussion on the Fiber Artists Facebook page, I tried the non-roll method to create the following scarves.  It worked perfectly.
note to self (use much less water and remember to wipe out the dryer afterwards).

Punis / Rolags

I was intrigued by the puni / rolag product that is out there these days so I made some up.  the first is what I would call Eye Candy.

April 16, 2014

This first post represents my work for the past year or so.

 Felting...

I attended a silk fusion workshop last year and loved the results.  I've been experimenting ever since.

I also attended a Nuno felting workshop given by Lyn Pfleuger of Sheep Creek Weavers.  This is a shoulder cape I created using her methods.
